Facts and figures

Ceres at a glance

Ceres Heilmittel is a Swiss family business. Hildegard and Dr Roger Kalbermatten founded it in 1991 with the ambition of rethinking how plant-based mother tinctures are made. That work gave rise to the Ceres mortar process, developed by Dr Roger Kalbermatten and patented in 1995. Today the company is run by Christoph Kalbermatten, in the second generation.

At the technological heart of the process is the rhythmic grinding of the fresh plant directly in alcohol — in the Ceres mortar grinder, slowly and without heating. Because no heat is generated and oxidation remains low, the mother tinctures retain their intense colours, their long shelf life and their complex aroma.

The plants, from organic cultivation or controlled wild collection, are harvested and prepared carefully by hand. Ceres mother tinctures mature for several years in the tincture store and are dosed very low: up to 10 times lower than commercially available tinctures.
